About Us

Since 1955 we have provided support, guidance, friendship and fun by matching children to volunteer mentors. Big Brothers Big Sisters employs a professional staff that carefully work with both the volunteer and the child to ensure a dynamic, fufilling, memorable and fun experience.

Our Impact
National research show that positive relationship between youth and their Big Brother or Big Sister have a direct and measurable impact*. By participating in our programs, youth are:
 
  • 52% less likely to skip school
  • 46% less likely to use illegal drugs
  • 27% less likely to start drinking alcohol
  • More confident of their academic performance
  • Able to get along better with their families
 
Arizona State University conducted a study with children involved in our Site-based program at Wilson Elementary school in Phoenix**. The study assessed the effectiveness of the program based upon three objectives: Self confidence, decision making and school grades. It was discovered that:
 
  • 92% of youth improved their self confidence
  • 62% made better decisions
  • 85% improved or maintained passing grades in science
  • 70% improved or maintained passing grades in reading
  • 60% improved or maintained passing grades in math
