Big Brothers Big Sisters of Central Arizona matches youth in our community with caring adult mentors who offer encouragement and support so that each child can reach their full potential. We enroll youth between the ages of 6-15. Once matched, youth can remain enrolled in our program until they are 18 years old or graduate from high school.
We are currently immediately enrolling Little Sisters! While we do have a waitlist of Little Brothers, we currently have 25 Big Sisters waiting all over the Valley for their Little Sister.
Here’s how you can help:
- Enroll your child: All youth in our community can benefit from an additional caring adult in their lives. Sign your child up today, https://www.bbbsaz.org/enroll/
- Refer a friend: Reach out to Community Outreach Specialist, Isabel Tovar at itovar@bbbsaz.org, and connect us with families or family-serving organizations who can benefit from enrolling in our program.
There are two mentoring options to enroll your child in today; Community-Based and Site-Based.
- Community-Based Mentoring: Your child meets up with their Big one-to-one at least two times per month for one year to do things they can enjoy when they both have the time in their schedules. It is up to them, but some common activities have been going for a hike or to the movies and cooking together.
- Site-Based Mentoring: If your child attends one of our partner schools or youth centers, they can meet with their Big for one hour every other week during their school lunch break or after school at the youth center. At our sites, Matches spend time together either working on homework, making slime, or playing board games.
When asking Big Sister Dennay about her Site-Based mentoring experience, this is what she had to share, “Mentoring at Heard has been a great experience, Jocelyn (our program specialist) makes sure my Little and I always have a fun time! It has been nice seeing my friendship grow with my Little Sister over the course of the year and I can’t wait to see all the ways it blossoms into the next school year.”
