Transgender Awareness Day of Remembrance

Big Brothers Big Sisters is an organization that believes in the power and potential of all youth.

It is this belief that guides our decisions as we navigate how best to support our youth, their families, and our community as a whole.

With this as our guiding principle, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Central Arizona (BBBSAZ) stands proudly beside our partners, including ONE Community and one•n•ten, in solidarity on this Transgender Day of Remembrance.

November 20th has been set aside as a day of remembrance to honor those transgender individuals whose lives have been lost due to acts of violence against them. According to Parents, Families, & Friends of Lesbians & Gays (PFLAG), 47 transgender lives were taken in the United States within the last year.

BBBSAZ believes in providing an inclusive and welcoming space for all diverse life experiences and are committed to working as allies for those in our community who have been discriminated against, targeted with hate, or who have been the victims of violence.   Today and every day, we work to honor and support those individuals who have chosen to exist as the truest versions of themselves.

In Solidarity,

Laura Capello
President & CEO
Big Brothers Big Sisters of Central Arizona
