There are currently over 200 youth from all over the Valley waiting for a mentor. Youth in some areas of the Valley might wait several months, sometimes up to a year, until they are matched with a mentor. With the help of our amazing community partners, BBBSAZ can host “Little Night Outs” to keep the waitlisted youth engaged. During this unique mentoring event, employees from local businesses or organizations volunteer their time to hang out with waitlisted youth for a few hours.
On June 19th, we hosted a Little Night Out at Main Event with volunteers from Renewal by Andersen. To each of the Renewal by Andersen volunteers who generously gave of your time and attention to lovingly invest in the future and development of our Littles, thank you! Your support has been a lifeline, keeping our Littles and their families connected to BBBSAZ, community resources, and empowering resilience.
During the event, volunteers were paired with our Waiting Littles. Pairs were able to bowl, play arcade games and enjoyed grabbing a bite to eat.
As the evening came to an end, many volunteers expressed interest in becoming Bigs and started their applications. It only took an evening of hanging out for these volunteers to see how impactful and easy mentoring can be. Our families were so grateful not only for the Little Night Out event but by the potential for their children to be matched with a Big more quickly.
