Black History Month

This Black History Month, we celebrate the legacy of those who paved the way and opened doors for future generations. At Big Brothers Big Sisters, we see this legacy alive every day as young people connect with mentors who share their experiences, struggles, and dreams. These connections are more than just guidance—they are about creating spaces where youth can envision themselves in tomorrow’s success stories.

Nearly 65% of the youth we serve are BIPOC, with one-third identifying as Black or African American. Our mission at Big Brothers Big Sisters is rooted in justice, equity, diversity, and inclusion (JEDI), affirming the unique backgrounds and experiences of the young people we serve. This month, we proudly stand #BiggerTogether as we continue to empower youth, ensuring they have the mentorship and support needed to realize their full potential.

Mentorship plays a pivotal role in shaping the leaders of tomorrow. It’s about more than just giving advice—it’s about building relationships that uplift and inspire. Research shows that 80% of young Black professional’s credit mentorship as a key factor in their success in the workplace. By becoming a mentor, you can make a lasting impact on a young person’s life and contribute to a more just and equitable society. Mentorship, especially in the Black community, is key to providing opportunities and helping young people overcome barriers that have historically held them back.

This Black History Month, we encourage you to join the movement. Become Big. Whether through sharing your story or offering guidance, your involvement can help shape a better future. Together, we can build a world where diversity is celebrated, equity is prioritized, and inclusion is the standard.

Let’s make a difference and uplift the next generation of leaders. Join us in celebrating Black History Month and supporting the youth who will shape our future. #BeBig #BiggerTogether #BlackHistoryMonth
