Are you looking for ways to give back to your community in the new year? Or maybe your New Year’s Resolution is volunteering? With over 180 youth on our waiting list, there is no better time than NOW to become a Big!
The role of the Big is to be a positive friend to a child in need of a role model. Bigs provide encouragement and advice, academic support if needed, and help their Littles understand how they can achieve success in life.
Big Brothers Big Sisters has two mentoring programs for you to choose from; Community Based and Site Based Mentoring. As a community based mentor, you will meet one to one in the community on days and times that are convenient for both of you. You both decide on activities that you do based on common likes and interests. We do encourage free and low cost activities. We will provide you with activity ideas and connect you to free tickets and discounts for community activities.
As a site based mentor, you will meet with your Little at one of our partner sites, either at an elementary school during the child’s lunch break or an after school program in the early evening hours. One of our program specialists will be at the site on the designated day to facilitate activities between all the Bigs and Littles. This is an excellent way to take a break from work or other obligations during the week!
We ask that all of our Bigs commit to seeing their Little 2-4 times a month for the first year.
