During National Mentoring Month we are thrilled to launch our new strategic initiative- Big Vision 300. Our Big Vision to share with our community that we won’t settle for the youth waiting for a mentor on our waitlist being the norm.
We are instilling trust and creating a future where mentorship is available in a timely manner to every child who seeks it.
Is this a BIG task…yes!! But our LITTLES are worth it! Our strategic initiative goes into detail on how we will achieve our goal but right here is how you and your best friend, son or daughter, co-worker can start right now!!!
Our Big Vision will support a “1:1 plus” model where youth are at the center of all we do, surrounded by people to encourage them through mentoring experiences that drive impactful outcomes that help them reach their full potential
BBBSAZ’s Big Duos Program
In this program, two people (best friends, partners, co-workers, spouses, or siblings) mentor a youth together twice per month. As a duo, the two mentors provide a team of support and empower the youth to realize their potential.
What is a Big Duo and what do they do?
A Big Duo is a pair of volunteer mentors who team up to mentor one youth (“Little”) or two sibling Littles. They meet twice a month to hang out, have fun, and enjoy activities like going to the park, having dinner, riding bikes, or attending festivals. The goal is to build a positive, encouraging friendship with the Little.
Who can be a big duo?
Adults (18 or older) who are couples, friends, coworkers, or adult family members can volunteer together as Bigs. Each individual in the duo must apply and go through the BBBSAZ enrollment process to become Bigs. Big Duos should have a long-standing and/or committed relationship with each other in order to volunteer.
Why become a Big Duo?
Because volunteering together can be even more fun and meaningful (and easier!) than volunteering alone. You’ll be sharing a mentoring opportunity that makes a BIG difference in a youth’s life, and you’ll be doing it on your schedule. What’s especially convenient about being a Big Duo is that one or both of you can get together with your Little at a time, so it makes for a convenient way to empower the potential of a local youth
